  10.   Pegase is a highly optimized MPEG audio encoder, based upon the
  11.   ISO/MPEG source code.

  14.          PEGASE DOESN'T SUPPORT LAYER 3, AND WILL NEVER DO

  17.     But before complaining about that, try the layer 2 by yourself.
  18.     It is able to compete with Layer 3 (mp3) now, but the encoded
  19.     files remain a bit larger (+25%, because you still have to use
  20.     a bitrate greater or equal to 160 kbits/s).

  23.   - MPEG-1 Layer 1/Layer 2 encoding.
  24.   - Accept AIFF, MAUD, WAV, CDDA and RAW files (16 bits samples only).
  25.   - Really Faaaaast (2:1 ratio with a 68060/50).
  26.   - Very high quality encoding, which make layer 2 as good as layer 3
  27.     as long as you use a decent bitrate (>= 160 kbits/s).

  45.   - Layer 1 snr and quantization tables have been fixed (long standing
  46.     bug).
  47.   - Little speedup due to a reduced attenuation limit in the spreading
  48.     function.
  49.   - The absolute threshold tables have been changed again.
  50.   - Little modification on the scale factors select information pattern
  51.     in order to match more closely the subband level in some cases.
  52.   All in all, this version should be the best release so far...
